Joy Devi - a highly respected and sought after internationally-known
teacher specializing in the subtle use of body and mind in healing
and stress management, has been teaching all over the world for
more than twenty-five years. Along with her yoga and stress management
experience, Nischala was trained in traditional medicine and has
worked extensively in the field. She is co-founder of the award-winning
Commonweal Cancer Help Program and was an early collaborator for
the yoga portion of Dr. Dean Ornish's Revolutionary Program for
Reversing Heart Disease. She served as Director of Stress Management
for the program's hospital-based version.
In 1992 and 1993 Nischala Devi was awarded grants from the Hale
Fund and the Rockefeller Flow Fund for her continuing service
in yoga
and life-threatening diseases. She helped develop, and was the
primary instructor for, the Teachers Training Program for Integral
Yoga International
for over ten years. She is currently involved in establishing the
American Yoga College, a national teachers training program.
With her knowledge of yoga, and her experience assisting those
with heart disease, she developed Yoga of the Heart™, a training
and certification program for yoga teachers in adapting yoga practices
to the special needs of cardiac patients. Her new book on the subject,
The Healing Path of Yoga, published by Harmony/Random House Inc.
is available at bookstores everywhere. The Abundant Well-Being
Series of relaxation tapes for healing was produced by Nischala
to allow these yoga and stress-relieving techniques to touch more
people. Nischala Devi's gentle and profound wisdom, along with her realistic
approach, serves as a bridge to merge the ancient science of yoga
with modern medical techniques. This special gift gives her the
freedom to expand beyond the boundaries and limitations of any
one tradition or technique, enabling her to touch people's hearts.
